Projects – A Kazini Community Care Initiative Uganda (KCCIU)
We are dedicated to empowering both boys and girls in rural communities by equipping them with life-changing skills in sustainable maize farming, dairy farming, value addition, and financial inclusion. Our mission is simple yet transformative: to uplift young people in underserved areas by turning agriculture into a tool for self-reliance, income generation, and long-term empowerment.
Why Maize and Dairy? Agriculture remains the backbone of many rural Ugandan communities. Yet, young people—especially girls and boys—often lack access to the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to benefit from it. This initiative seeks to bridge that gap. We focus on maize farming because it is a staple food crop with high market demand. Combined with value addition — such as drying, milling, packaging, and branding — maize can become a reliable source of income. At the same time, dairy farming provides a daily revenue stream through milk production, with the added benefits of food security and community nutrition.
Mechanized Agriculture for Better Productivity One of the major challenges rural farmers face is the use of outdated and labor-intensive methods. To address this, our program introduces proper mechanized planting and weeding techniques. We prioritize training for both women and men, ensuring that everyone — regardless of gender — gains access to modern farming technologies that can significantly boost agricultural productivity and reduce physical burden.
“I used not to attend any community gatherings or access markets or Health facilities for fear of people pointing fingers at me. I didn’t take medicine in time because we used to eat only once a day just for survival and yet there was a need for me to eat enough food in time to boost my immunity. My five children were always chased from school due to lack of (Parents Teachers Association) PTA contributions and scholastic materials. I was not engaged in any livelihood activities to improve my household income to support my basic needs, health, and education for my children. I just turned to God and said why me”.
Financial Inclusion for a Better Future
Empowering young farmers doesn’t stop in the field. At Kazini Community Care Initiative Uganda (KCCIU), we embed financial literacy and inclusion at the heart of our program.
Youth are taught how to:
- Save and invest their earnings
- Access and manage loans or agricultural grants
- Join or form village savings groups and cooperatives
- Use mobile money and digital tools to track finances
This holistic approach helps them grow not just as farmers, but as entrepreneurs and financially independent individuals, equipped to lead and sustain their own ventures.
A Gender-Inclusive Model
We are especially intentional about gender inclusion. In
many rural settings, young women are excluded from
decision-making in agriculture. At KCCIU, we create
equal spaces for both boys and girls to learn, lead, and
earn.
We challenge gender stereotypes by training women in
skills traditionally reserved for men — such as
operating farm machinery or leading cooperative groups —
while also helping young men understand the value of
inclusive communities.
The Impact We're Creating
Over 300 youth trained in sustainable maize and dairy
farming
80+ women-led dairy initiatives launched
Dozens of youth-owned agribusinesses started
Youth now accessing formal financial services and
markets
Our work doesn’t just transform individuals — it revives
entire communities through agricultural innovation,
financial independence, and inclusive economic
development.
Real Voices from the Field
“Before this project, I only helped my mother in the
garden. Now I grow maize on my own, sell it, and have
saved enough to buy a second cow.”
— Daniel, 20, Ngangi Village
“They taught me how to use a planter machine. I never
imagined a girl like me could do that. Now I train
others.”
— Brenda, 19, Kikonda
